Buzz Feed Meal Plan for Cheap

Summer was quickly approaching and I knew two things. 1. I wanted to drastically cut down on eating out. 2. If I wanted to keep up with my study schedule, I wouldn't have time to cook throughout the day. I normally go on Buzzfeed to check out their quizzes and food posts,  and was surprised that they literally just posted a 7 day meal prep post! After quickly looking through the post, I was happy to see that the ingredients seemed relatively cheap and they reuse ingredients within different recipes, so there would be little to no wasted food. Here's how it went!!

Prep Day

Day 1

Listen, I have to admit that I'm a bit unruly. I was supposed to eat pre-made veggie egg cups for breakfast, but I wanted to incorporate some turkey bacon, and I forgot to make the cups. I just ended up making scrambled eggs and eating everything in a bowl. However, I loved the lunch! It was easy to put together, and the salsa was a great addition. The soup was good. It wasn't amazing, but I wasn't expecting for it to be.

Day 2

Woo!! This day was poppin! This was my first time eating overnight oats. It's now a staple in my breakfast line-up. It's healthy, tastes great, and super filling! Putting everything together was easy, and took no more than five minutes! The salad was nice, and I added chicken to jazz it up a bit. The 'fried rice' was the winner of the day! I think I made more than the recipe, but I most definitely ate all of it while watching Money Heist. You can't worry about the quantity of quinoa to add when you're trying to find out if the Professor is going to slip up and ruin the entire plan! Am I right? No? Okay.

Day 3

This smoothie was everything and more. It was sweet and left me feeling rejuvenated. Before I get into lunch and dinner, I would just like to say that I apologize. I changed up everything and for lunch it didn't work. Fullstop. Mi mash up lunch. I added chicken, twice the amount of avocado, and a bunch of everything else. I don't even know why I did it. If you look at the picture on Buzzfeed and my picture, the recipes only look related if you squint. I didn't even end up eating the tortilla. It tasted great though! I forgot to get pasta to make the dinner, so I ended up cooking some spinach and eating it with some jerk shrimp that I made.

Day 4

Listen. This lil wrap that I made?! This wrap? This wrap?? I'm not even going to sit here and lie. I was making it thinking it was going to be foolishness. I was thinking that there is no way it's so easy to make tzatziki. I love tzatziki! I ended up adding some leftover jerk shrimp and homemade hummus………………..and lowkey hot sauce. This was just great. No complaints over here. I might make it again tomorrow. You never know. I also substituted the chickpeas out for some leftover shrimp for the dinner.

Day 5

Day 5! I definitely became better at portion control. Today was basically a remix of recipes that I have made earlier in the week!

Final Thoughts

I loved my meal prep experience, even though I changed a few things up! The recipes were easy, quick to put together, and fairly healthy. I now eat overnight oats every other morning and drink smoothies the remaining mornings. This routine also worked very well with my workout/lecture schedule. Overall, I would definitely recommend if you are new to this meal prep life like I was!
